To apply a True Door decal on a door with a kickplate, follow these steps:
Tools Needed:
- Plant sprayer (water + a few drops of dishwashing liquid)
- Squeegee
- Sharp Stanley knife
- Metal ruler
- Wiper or rag
Steps for Application:
-
Decide What to Do with the Kickplate:
- Option 1: Remove the Kickplate (Recommended)
- If possible, remove the kickplate before applying the decal. After applying the decal, you can reattach the kickplate or replace it with a transparent Plexiglas plate for protection.
- Option 2: Apply the Decal Around the Kickplate
- If you cannot remove the kickplate, you can either cut the decal to fit up to the top edge of the kickplate or apply the decal directly over the kickplate.

Wet the Door:
- Spray the door with a mixture of water and dishwashing liquid to keep it wet and allow easy adjustments during the application.

-
Apply the Decal:
- Begin by applying the decal as you would on a standard flat door. Align the top of the decal and press it gently to hold it in place.
- As you reach the kickplate, choose one of the following methods based on your decision:
- If removing the kickplate, apply the decal smoothly over the entire door surface and reattach the kickplate afterward.
- If applying around the kickplate, you can either:
- Apply the decal up to the top edge of the kickplate and trim off any excess using a Stanley knife, or
- Stick the decal over the kickplate, though this will make the kickplate non-functional and may cause the decal to wrinkle over the elevated area.
-
Trim the Decal:
- If you've applied the decal around the kickplate, use a sharp Stanley knife to trim along the top edge of the kickplate for a clean finish.
- If you’ve applied the decal over the kickplate, carefully smooth out any wrinkles with the squeegee.
-
Reattach the Kickplate:
- If you removed the kickplate, reattach it carefully once the decal is fully applied. Alternatively, use a transparent Plexiglas kickplate to protect the decal from damage caused by collisions with wheelchairs, strollers, or other objects.
Notes:
- If the kickplate is made of plastic, request a material sample from True Doors to test whether the decal adheres well to it.
- If the kickplate remains, inform True Doors so they can adjust the decal image to avoid duplication of the kickplate in the design.
This process ensures that the decal fits neatly around the kickplate while maintaining the visual appeal and functionality of both the decal and the kickplate.
