How do I check my door?
A True Doors ® tutorial
Summary
Before ordering or applying your True Doors decal, it's important to check whether your door is suitable.
Here's how to check:
Surface Check:
Ensure the door has a smooth and flat surface. True Doors decals stick best to these surfaces.
If your door has any texture or structure, the decal may not adhere properly. You can request a small sample to test adhesion.
Panel doors or doors with raised/engraved sections are not suitable for decals.
Damage and Repair:
Check for any damage like holes, deep scratches, or cracks. These should be repaired before applying the decal, as imperfections will show through the decal.
Fill any holes and sand them flat.
Fixtures and Attachments:
Ensure you can remove door handles, peepholes, nameplates, and other attachments.
If there are things like kickplates or ventilation grills, plan whether to remove them or cut around them during the decal application. There are tutorials for handling these situations.
Weatherstrips:
Check if there's a weatherstrip along the edges of the door. If the door closes tightly against it, it might press too hard on the decal and cause it to curl. Make sure there’s enough space, or plan to trim the decal to fit.
Once you've made these checks, your door should be ready for the decal.
